Online knowledge center for a safer Netherlands

Safety cannot be taken for granted. It is the result of research, of science, of interventions, of behavior. Together with its partners, VeiligheidNL wants to make everyone aware of how to handle risks safely. But how do you make such a large amount of knowledge practically accessible?

Organization

As the knowledge center for injury prevention, VeiligheidNL has been committed to making the lives of millions of people safe(r) for nearly 40 years. It does this by encouraging safe behavior in a safe environment.

Challenge

SafetyNL focuses primarily on intermediaries who are in direct contact with high-risk groups. The diversity of this target group is reflected in the broad offer of the knowledge center. The website must show them the shortest route to the right knowledge, services and solutions; information that must be easily and attractively published by the consultants and content managers.

Solution

With a headless multisite Drupal CMS with React frontend, VeiligheidNL not only has a future-proof platform but also a framework for information websites. With reusable components we thus gain speed and reliability and prevent proliferation.

Layered information to deepen or broaden knowledge

To immediately get a concise overview of relevant information, select your field of work (e.g., Maternity Care), topic (e.g., Suffocation) and the type of information you are looking for (e.g., Facts and Figures) on the home page. On an article page, you then read the summary of a study on preventive measures or download the full report. It is this layering that makes large amounts of information manageable.

Linking knowledge to need

With 6 programs, 12 sectors involved, 18 possible topics, dozens of content types and a database dating back to 2003, it's easy to get snowed under. That's why we reduced the bulky content model to a simple interface. After a short training session, content managers and consultants can easily post new content and establish relationships so that visitors always receive the best possible knowledge offerings.

Accessibility is people work

Many Web sites opt for automatically generated suggestions. SafetyNL prefers to rely on the skill of its editors. Under an article, therefore, they post recommendations for visitors to this particular page. And if the information does not answer your question or you want to collaborate on the chosen topic, everywhere the SafetyNL expert involved is visible and reachable.

Effective campaigning

The government regularly commissions VeiligheidNL to pay more attention to a specific topic. A good example is the chain approach in Fall Prevention: a kind of toolkit for municipalities. With elements from the design system, content managers can easily bundle relevant content in a separate section. This is further enriched with interactive elements that activate visitors, for example a current map to easily find a certified professional in your area.

Easy management of an online landscape

If VeiligheidNL is addressing the public directly with education, for example around Child Safety, its own environment is often needed with different design. Because the headless Drupal CMS is set up as a multi-domain, the content of such a satellite website can also be managed centrally. So although it uses the same functional components on the "back end," with an extension of the design system the presentation can be customized for specific target groups.

Safety is never complete

With VeiligheidNL's organization and partners, we are constantly working on making the platform even more user-friendly and relevant. For example, we will expand and optimize the e-Learning environment, improve the customer journey for the webshop and develop a My environment for customized online services. In this way we are working together on a safer Netherlands.
