Get Up, Speak Out for Youth Rights! (GUSO) is a 5-year program to improve the sexual rights and health of young people in 7 Asian and African countries. In the program, Rutgers, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, Dance4Life, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, Simavi and AIDS Fund are working with many local organizations to achieve their goals.
The program was to conclude in December 2020 with a conference and exhibition to reflect on the results with all stakeholders. Now that this was no longer possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were asked to develop a digital alternative
An exposition or distance coming in
After years of intensive collaboration, there are many results, great stories and valuable findings to share. To give these the stage they deserve, we have developed a digital exhibition that brings them to life. Upon reception in the 'lobby' you as a visitor will be offered an overview of the entire program and its results. You will then be guided past the exhibits of the different countries to delve into their claims and stories.
Physical versus digital
A digital exhibit never offers the same experience as a physical one. Therefore, we did not undertake a complex attempt to recreate it in a virtual environment, as this would distract too much from the content. Instead, we created a three-dimensional exhibition space in which, as a visitor, you could easily move between the different rooms to take in the content.

Not a physical event but a global conference
In addition to the digital exhibition, we developed a website to facilitate a 'remote conference'. From an overview of the four-day program, 'visitors' could register for numerous online meetings and presentations by as many as 82 speakers from 7 countries; and simple but very practical way to add dialogue to the digital version of this conference.

A close collaboration
We look back on a fine collaboration with Rutgers and our friends at Beyond Borders Media, responsible for the conference content. In a short but intensive period, we managed to provide an online experience that does justice to the Alliance's important work to improve the sexual empowerment and health of young people worldwide.
