Fantastic 10th edition of the Big Brother Awards

The 10th edition of the Big Brother Awards was a great success in a packed Stadsschouwburg whose director Melle Daamen, with satirical tightening of the house rules, provided a lighthearted note throughout the evening.

The first award went to the current school system: due to digitalization, we record far too much info from children for far too long. Where is the room to make mistakes for them, and is that data, even at the meta level, allowed to be commercially available?

Hans de Zwart told us, among other things, that after all, you don't need the content to build a detailed profile of someone.

Opstelten got the audience award for the third time, and unfortunately takes it less and less seriously. Just like our freedom.

Aral Balkan, founder of ind.ie, brilliantly summarized what the characteristics of Spyware 2.0 industry (fb, tw, g etc) are and called on the software industry to secure ethical responsibility in the base of their business.

The finale was a Q&A with the man who had the biggest impact on freedom in recent years: Edward Snowden. From a hotel room, slightly stricken it seemed, he answered questions from the audience. Big line: we the citizens will have to act when we disagree. No matter how small your sphere of influence.
