Realization of an online information platform
We developed the Kidney Living Donation platform to thus enable potential kidney donors and kidney patients to navigate the donation and transplantation process in a well-informed manner.
'Kidney donation while alive' is a joint initiative of the Nierstichting, Nierpatiënten Vereniging Nederland (NVN) and Stichting Anonieme Nierdonoren (Sand). It was they who engaged us to create this platform, from design to development.
Together with Arjen van Dijkhuizen of Generous Minds, we mapped the common "journey" of donors and patients. From the first thought, the orientation and screening phase to aftercare and recovery. This has become the common thread of the site, providing information about the total donation and transplantation journey.
In addition, we have depicted various experiences of both donors and patients. Because these kinds of processes can stir up a lot of emotions, it is nice that you, as a donor or patient, can read stories of others to support what you are going through and to reflect the diversity of experiences. A question-and-answer section allows people to ask questions when they have them. An inventory of current treatment centers and their points of contact was also done.
After the development process, we did a user test with the potential target audience. The resulting conclusions were very useful for final fine-tuning and provided insight into how the website was perceived by the target audience.
Meanwhile, the platform is live and we are eager to see the further centralization of information as other parties join. For example, a team of volunteers who have themselves donated a kidney and are able to speak to people from their own experience has recently been set up.
