't Fijnhout is a business centre in Amsterdam that houses semi-cultural and creative companies: it contains a variation of architects, marketing & design agencies, a booking agency, a research organisation, a recording studio. The historic building itself used to be a wood refining factory and since the 1980s it contains various innovative companies.
When we were first approached the idea was to create a website with information for potential clients, however, our questions about their strategy prompted the management to provide us with a broader brief: create an entire visual identity, while combining the buildings' old history with its new purpose. As the main concept we created a sharp vector illustration of life on a tree, representing the interior system of stairs and hallways, and applied these graphics on real wooden backgrounds. This identity was translated accordingly onto the website and guiding-signs.
